i have complicated feelings on this and don’t necessarily agree that it’s not always abuse, but i agree that the focus on it and pure vilification is absolutely disgusting, and disproportionately targets poc and poor families. furthermore this view supports state run systems that break up those families, prey on them, and puts vulnerable children in systems that have even higher rates of abuse as well as implicitly puts faith in our fucked up and racist prison system.
so overall i really hate most discourse on this, esp w the way it erases immigrant families and the likes. don’t feel good about being an arbitrator on what should or should not be considered abuse since only kids/the adults they grow into should be the judge of that but i absolutely welcome talking about this and agree with you on everything else completely.
yeah its touchy thats why i tried to make the spectrum difference wide like its something that needs to be talked about but no one wants to
most people have been spanked/whipped once in their life and most people unfairly, abusively, etc. It’s really just an experience thing like you said, but taking that experience and turning it into this tirade is SO DANGEROUS and puts families and children in danger if you dont find that fine line for it.
its exhausting, i know its different for everyone, but i cant stand seeing it constantly. as someone who’s had to deal with both sides of the hand people trying to circle it all into this one evil are overlooking so much shit
